ASHTANGA VINYASA IMMERSION

michaelhamilton10-16 MAY 13 CAPE TOWN

32 Hours Training for yoga students and teachers. This immersion presents an opportunity to explore the deep roots of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in an inspiring and authentic way. At the end of the full immersion you will be given a certificate of completion.

In this 7 day immersion we will journey into Ashtanga yoga and explore its deep roots in the yoga traditions of India. The idea of using practice techniques such as asana, breathing practices and meditation for heightening awareness and letting go of false notions of the constructed self, has a spectacular history and rich tradition in the spiritual practices emanating from India. As we weave our way through some of the most important texts and teachings that comprise the colourful tapestry of the Yoga tradition we will find how the teachings from the classical (raja), physically oriented (hatha) and devotionally oriented (bhakti) schools share a common thread while emphasizing different aspects of practice. Whether focusing on creating concentrated awareness, discovering the energy body or opening the center of the heart to discover our true nature, we will examine the core motives, philosophical axioms and the connection to the body practice at the heart of the Yoga tradition.

Morning practice will alternately consist of asana practice, breathing exercises and meditation. Here we utilize the different techniques for optimal performance of body and concentration of mind by understanding the anatomical and energetic aspects of the body-mind connection. Inner alignment and anatomy will form part of this module in conjunction with meticulously breaking down the postures of the first series of Ashtanga yoga. Afternoon sessions will be an exploration of the concepts and language yoga has used over time to explain and express the experience of awakening to the present moment as the expression of non-dual open awareness. A brief overview of the Yoga tradition with an emphasis on Classical Yoga, Bhakti and the Madyamika school of Buddhism will supply material from which we will work from.
